Why is Japanese Stainless Steel preferred for Best Barber Scissors?

Barber scissors are not just tools used for cutting hair anymore; they have come a long way from being just that. Today barber scissors are the secret behind a perfect, highly stylish and often expensive hair cuts. So what is it about barber scissors and why do some of the top most hair stylist prefer to use barber scissors made with Japanese Steel?

Japanese Steel is the preferred metal of choice for those seeking premium quality in barber scissors for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it is how the scissors are made using Japanese steel. Previously scissors were made by casting metal into a mold, this made the shears more brittle and they became imbalanced over time.  However, these days the scissors are made a lot differently, which consumes a lot of time and puts immense pressure on the metal, for this method only Japanese steel is sturdy enough to hold its own and still come out a winner.

Second reason for choosing Japanese steel is precision. Since scissors made from Japanese steel are mostly handmade, therefore they offer more balance and precision to the stylist. This is why most scissors made from Japanese steel come with a lifetime guarantee.

So if you are looking for state-of-the-art crafted scissors made of Japanese steel. Then Ekal professional is your best bet! How to Choose the right Pet Grooming Scissors

Selecting shears is one of the most important decisions a groomer has to make. Which shears you select has a major impact on the speed and quality of your work, on the health of your hands, and on your wallet also. Dog trimming scissors come in such a vast array of sizes, materials and brands so taking your time and researching which pair is perfect for you is the best way to go about it.

When deciding which Pet grooming scissors are right for you there is three important factors to consider;
1. What type of scissor blade will you need?
2. What kind of handle do you need?
3. What length of blade do you need?

When buying dog grooming scissors, the very first point you will need to look at is what kind of blade style you need.  There are several choices to choose ultimately will depend on what you intend to use your scissors for.

BLADES:
  1. Bull Nosed Blades
These dog grooming scissors have flat and round edge tips that help to reduce the risk of cuts and nicks to the dog.  Using this type of scissor for this area will reduce the risk to both you and the dog, and cause less pain if a problem does occur.
  2. Wide Blades
Wide blades grooming scissors is recommended if you have a dog with a heavy or coarse coat, such as Cocker Spaniels and Old English Sheep Dogs.
  3. Bent, Short and Long Shanks
You can also buy dog grooming scissors with a bent shank which helps to reduce finger drag through a coat as they help to keep your hand away from it.  Short shank grooming scissors allow for a more comfortable grip with your middle and index fingers and thumb as they do not require much scissor movement.  Long shank dog trimming scissors require more force to open and close, causing more pressure on the thumb.  They are ideal for people with long fingers as they provide a more relaxed cutting position.
HANDLE
  1. Symmetric Handle/Opposing Grip:
Any dog grooming scissors with this type of handle features two shanks that are the same length and symmetrical to the centre screw. They are the least ergonomic option available but are suited for people cut with the thumb and middle finger.
  2. Offset Handle:
A pair of dog grooming scissors with this handle has a short thumb shank and a longer finger shank.  It is aimed at making the scissors more comfortable to use as the shorter thumb handle reduces the stress on the thumb tendon and helps reduce the risk of RSI.
  3. Crane Handle:
It is rare to find dog grooming scissors with a crane handle but they are available.  They are also offset but when you hold the scissors horizontally, the handle will angle downwards.  This improves your positioning and prevents stress on the thumb, arm and shoulder.  This also helps to move your hand away from the dog when using your grooming scissors, allowing for a more open cut.
LENGTH:
  1. Pet Grooming scissors come in lengths from 4 1/2" to 12", with 8 1/2" being the most common, all-around shears.
  2. Most of your scissoring will be done with these on Bichons, Poodles, puppy cuts on Lhasas, etc. Smaller shears of 6 1/2" to 7 1/2" are very good for use on small dogs, or to trim small areas-inside a toy poodle’s hind legs, for instance.
  3. Very small shears such as the 4 1/2" are useful for close work around the eyes, or for edging just the tips of prick ears. The 9" to 12" shears are great for a puppy cut on an Old English Sheep dog, or a Standard Poodle.
MATERIAL:
Various features will affect the weight, feel and performance of the grooming shears. The type of material used to manufacture the shears affects its durability and maintenance requirements.
  1. Carbon steel is durable and holds an edge, but must be kept oiled to prevent rust.
  2. Stainless steel is a high-quality steel combined with chromium to resist rust.
  3. Cobalt steel is a type of hardened stainless steel designed to resist chips and nicks.
  4. The steel used in shears is also subjected to sub-zero temperatures during the manufacturing process in order to change the composition of the metal making it harder. Thus, shears that are ice tempered, frozen tempered or cold forged will hold an edge longer. Most shears today are cold forged or ice-tempered

Scissors Care Tips

Scissors that are properly being taken care of can be enjoyed for a long time. But incorrect use and handling will ruin them.Taking Care of your Scissors will pay huge dividends in how your Scissors/ Shears cut and how long they last. Following are some tips to follow to Care and treatment of scissors, safety & sharpening.

The following advice should be noted:
1) Keeping scissors Clean
Dust, fluff and the remains of cutting material should be wiped off the cutting edges and blades. The scissors should be stored in a dry place. This applies particularly to nickel-plated, carbon steel scissors and shears because the unprotected areas of the surface are prone to corrosion in damp air.
2) Keeping Scissors Safe
Do not store your scissors in a bag or box. The tips can be damaged, nicks can occur, as well as other physical damage. Use a specially designed professional hair shears case, a fabric tool roll, a wallet, or an acrylic stand in which to store your shears
3)  Maintaining the easy closing action

Now and then the screw slot and the between should be oiled with a drop of fine oil. Thus the easy closing force of the scissors will be maintained.
Clean and oil your hair scissors on a regular basis (around the screw head and between the blades once a day). Do not use just any oil. Select one provided by your shear manufacturer or your sharpening service. They will provide the correct type of oil and a needle-nosed oil bottle that will allow you to put the oil where needed
4)
Checking the blade tension
Check the tension of your shears periodically. If it's too tight, the blades will grind against each other as they cut, too loose and the blades will fold and bend hair instead of cutting. This may also cause nicks. To check the tension, with your left hand hold the shears by the ring without the finger rest, point facing up. With your right hand hold the ring with the finger rest, and open the shears so that it forms a cross. Release the ring in your right hand. It should drop only slightly, if it falls more than slightly, it's too loose; if it doesn't move at all, it's too tight. Adjust the tension accordingly with a tension adjuster or by turning the tension adjustment knob. Never adjust the tension on your scissors while the blades are open. This will eliminate the possibility of nicks to the blades

5) Regrinding by specialists only
If a pair of scissors is used extensively, the cutting performance may suffer. It is then advisable to seek the service of a specialist retailer there the scissors will be taken apart, the inside of the blades reground, the closing action re-established and finally the blades re-honed. Afterwards scissors and shears are practically as good as new.

Scissors, Sewing Information on Scissors and Shears

Scissors vs. Shears
First off, though people often use the name interchangeably, scissors and shears aren’t really the same thing and are meant to perform different tasks. Shears are used for the heavier cutting jobs, whereas scissors are best used for lighter cutting jobs such as trimming or clipping threads.

Shear Strength
A pair of shears generally measures about 6 inches or more in length. To hold the shears, there is a small ring handle for the thumb, and a larger one for inserting two or three fingers. Holding the shears by placing your fingers through these rings gives better leverage to perform the heavier tasks for which shears excel
Scissors Are Smaller
Scissors range in length from 6 inches on down to 3 inches or even less. Besides being smaller than shears, the handle rings are of equal size

Sewing Scissors,Types of Scissors for Sewing

Scissors
General scissors are usually less than 6 inches long and have a straight handle. They are useful during the sewing process for clipping corners of fabric, cutting excess seam allowances and evening hems. General scissors can also be known as embroidery scissors, and are frequently used in decorative needlework projects.
Shears
Shears are the largest type of general sewing scissors. They are generally 6 to 9 inches long, and have a bent handle, with one large hole for fingers and one smaller one for the thumb. This angle in the handle allows you to cut fabric while holding your hand above the table, to enable easier cutting. Shears are extremely sharp, and should only be used to cut fabric or threads to maintain their sharp edge.
Pinking shears
Pinking shears are a specialized type of shears, generally used to finish edges of fabric. They create a zigzag edge on the fabric, as opposed to a straight line. Pinked edges are less likely to ravel in a finished garment, so pinking shears are valuable in garment sewing.
Applique scissors
Applique scissors are used, naturally, in applique work. They have one regular blade and one rounded blade. The rounded blade is held against the fabric, slipping in between the layers to be cut, while the pointed blade stays above the fabric and does the cutting. The rounded blade is less likely to cut the

How to Fix Hair Scissors

Beautician scissors can be very costly, and they unfortunately can be ruined easily. When cutting wet hair, the moisture from the hair can stay on the scissors if they are not properly dried. After some time, this will cause the scissors' blades to rust and dull. Dull scissors, in return, will not be able to cut hair well: it can leave the hair jagged and frayed. Instead of spending lots of money on new scissors, clean them properly and get them sharpened when they've started to weak

Step 1
Open the scissors blades as if ready to cut a piece of paper.
Step 2
Hold the sharpening stone in your non-dominant hand and place one of the blades against the stone.
