Usage of Professional Lancet and BlackHead Removers

Blackheads can dull the prettiest of faces and are difficult to get rid of. The are formed when excess oil and dirt get trapped in pores. The oil oxidizes and turns hard and ends up protruding from the skin like a pimple.
The best way of avoiding them is to keep your skin clean as much as possible, but incase you have developed blackheads or are prone to them, the best of getting rid of them is by using  blackhead extractors. Blackhead extractors are metallic tools which help in physically removing blackhead from the pores completely. Here are the two basic types of professional blackhead removers:

Blackhead Extractor with Lancet

Also known as blackhead remover single ended or lancet, it is one of the most commonly used tool for blackhead removal. It is about the size of a cotton bud and is sharply tapered at one end. The other end is rounded with a small hole in the middle.

The lancet first makes a hole in the skin, making it easier to extract the blackhead. The other end with the hole is then placed directly over the spot, with applied pressure. The pressure helps make the blackhead pop out and be removed.

Double Spoon Extractor

The second type of blackhead remover is called double ended blackhead remover. Although, it looks similar to a lancet, but works differently. As its name suggests, it is double ended with two tiny spoons with hoops at both ends. The first hoop is standard size and the other hoop has variation in hoop size, to accommodate blackheads of different sizes.

How to Use a Blackhead Remover or Extractor?

A blackhead remover/ blackhead extractor is basically a stainless steel tool with a scoop-shaped end with a central hole. Blackheads are annoying little unsightly spots on the face and other areas of the skin where oil has built up and become trapped inside the pore. Blackhead extractors are instruments used by professional beauty therapists to gently lever out blockages and blackheads from the skin. You don’t have to visit a professional to have your blackheads removed. You can get rid of them yourself, at home, with a blackhead extractor.
How to Use a Blackhead Remover/ Extractor?
  1. Sterilize the extractor before each use by soaking it in rubbing alcohol for a couple of minutes. Remove and dry.
  2. Prepare your skin by softening it with a hot shower or by placing a warm damp towel on your face until it cools. Run more warm water on the towel, ring it out and place it on your face again. Repeat each time it cools.
  3. Press the hole of the extractor over the offending blackhead and press gently. The dirty contents should come out through the hole without damaging the surrounding skin.
  4. Use the side of the scoop to remove oily skin debris at the side of the nostrils, the dip of the chin and in the ears.
  5. Immediately after using the extractor, apply a soothing antiseptic cream to kill any bacteria that may enter the open pore.
