What Is a Cuticle Nipper?

 A cuticle nipper is a small tool that is used to trim or cut back the cuticles on the fingernails or toenails. These tools are usually made from a durable metal such as stainless steel. They are designed with a two-pronged handle that fits in the palm of the hand. At the end of the cuticle nipper is a metal jaw with sharp edges intended to grasp and cut away excessive skin around the cuticle. The jaw is usually one inch (about 2.5 cm) deep or less.

It is common for nail technicians to use cuticle nippers during spa treatments for the feet and the hands. In order to maintain important hygienic standards, a cuticle nipper must be disinfected between clients. Even skilled nail technicians sometimes accidentally cut the cuticle too low and cause a small amount of bleeding around the nail bed. The risk of bleeding, even in small amounts, means that a cuticle nipper must be sterilized between clients.

Some people who prefer to enjoy manicures and pedicures at home instead of at the spa use spa-quality products at home. Cuticle nippers fall into this category. How to Thin Out Hair

Thinning the hair out with scissors can create a whole new look for unruly, thick hair, and is not terribly difficult to accomplish if the right techniques are used.

1. Point Cutting
Point cutting is a way to thin out the hair that can create a chunky or choppy look, as well as softening layers so that the hair lays smooth. Point cutting is done by bringing the hair up between the fingers so that the desired length can be cut off. The hair is held perpendicular to the head and the scissors are held straight down, pointing toward the scalp. The scissors are then brought down and cut the hair at a sharp angle in small chunks along the finger. A new section of hair is then grab and the process is continued. This technique is good for short hair and spikey, or sharp looks.
 

2. Notching
Notching is done the same way as Point Cutting, but is generally performed on much shorter, straight hairstyles. This enables a spiky, wild look to be created and the hair to be given added texture and movement
 

3. Slithering
o Slithering is best done with long hair either straight or wavy that needs thinning towards the end of the hair for a smooth, healthy look. In slithering, the hair is held out from the head, again perpendicular from the scalp. The scissors are held slightly open and, starting from the scalp, the scissors are run along the hair at a slight angle towards the end. This leaves the hair towards the scalp thicker than the ends. Slithering leaves the hair bouncy on the ends and will remove split ends.
 

Hair Thinning Scissors
o Another way to thin out the hair is to use hair thinning scissors. These scissors are like regular scissors except for that one blade has notches in it. These notches let hair slip between. Any hair that is in between the notches is not cut. This allows large areas to be cut at once without the worry of taking out too much hair. Start at the ends of the hair and clips it with the thinning scissors. Go along the entire perimeter. The higher in the hair you cut the more volume is created. Avoid getting too close to the scalp as this will leave short hair that sticks up form the scalp, creating an undesirable look.

Cuticle Pushers

Cuticle pushers come in many different forms.Different shaped tips on cuticle pushers or cuticle sticks perform different tasks. From metal to plastic, these instruments also have many styles that can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.These tools normally have different tips on the different ends.

Ends that are blade like are used more for removing forward cuticle growth close to the nail base, acrylics, nail glue and also very stubborn excess cuticle. Use with caution though, and only if you know what you are doing as removal of too much cuticle skin may damage the cuticle and allow germs to reach your nail bed.

Sharp, pointy ends are more for scraping the nail plate free of excess cuticle skin and other materials such as acrylic or nail glue. Pointy ends can also be used for cleaning under nails - but be careful!

Spoon like ends can be used for removing excess tissue once it has been removed. Nail tools with spoon like ends are often referred to by the surgical term for instruments resembling spoons - curettes.

All blunt ends, including curette, spoon like ends can be safely used for manipulating the cuticle. This is because blunt ends are less likely to damage the delicate cuticle skin. Blunt ends that have edges that have not been rounded can also be used to scrape light excess cuticle skin from the nail plate.

Curved ends that are rounded on the edges are used more to push back the cuticle after the excess has been scraped off as they reduce the chances of scraping the nail plate. Finer tipped blunt ended tools can be used to clean underneath nails as they can reach into tight spaces under and around the nail plate.

The selection of which to use depends upon the extent and thickness of the cuticle growth. One person could use a blunt ended instrument that still has an edge to it to remove just about all their excess cuticle growth and push back the remaining cuticle, whereas another person may need to use a blade like instrument to remove excess cuticle and then a blunt ended tool to push the cuticle back.

Probably the most well known form of cuticle pusher would have to be the orangewood stick, commonly referred to as an orange stick as well. These implements usually made of the wood from orange trees are normally rounded on one end and pointed on the other. The tips of these are frequently wrapped in cotton by users to make them less abrasive.

How to Clean Eyebrow Tweezers

Plucking and tweezing the eyebrows is a daily ritual for most women and some men. Most people don't think twice about their eyebrow tweezers, but these beauty tools may actually be harboring harmful bacteria and dirt. Since the eye area is extremely delicate, it's important to clean and sanitize your equipment anytime you groom your eyebrows.

• Take a good look at your current pair of eyebrow tweezers. If they're no longer sharp or they have any rust on them at all, throw them away ASAP.
• Pick up a pair of stainless steel eyebrow tweezers. Look for high-quality tweezers that are durable and well made. Pick up a pair of slanted tweezers for precision plucking or a pair of flat tweezers for plucking several hairs at a time.
• Wash tweezers in soap and water before every tweezing session. Use an antibacterial soap and pat tweezers dry using a clean, cotton cloth.
• Sanitize the tip of your tweezers with alcohol or peroxide. Run a cotton swab dipped in alcohol across the tips for a deep clean. Rinse tweezers under water after sanitizing them to prevent harsh ingredients from irritating the skin.
